The stochastic oscillator asks a simple question: where did this market close within its recent trading range? When the reading turns up from the bottom of that range, short-term selling pressure has eased — and at the index level that says something about a whole market rather than one company. This page lists the country and regional indexes where that turn happened most recently. Readers use it top-down: an index turning up is a prompt to look at what is inside it, not a trade in itself. Two cautions worth keeping in mind. The tendency behind it is mild and measured on a single index, so it belongs in the same category as a tailwind rather than a reason; and indexes turn up from oversold far more often in rising markets than in falling ones, so the page will be busiest when the least conviction is required to be long.
Country and regional indexes where the slow stochastic oscillator has just crossed up from its oversold zone — a short-term momentum turn read at the market level rather than in a single stock. In our own testing on MSCI World since 2015, the five sessions following this cross averaged a better return than a typical five-session stretch and finished positive more often than the base rate; the overbought (bearish) version of the same cross showed no comparable tendency and is not published here. A mild historical tilt measured on one index, not a forecast.
